Privacy policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Arpente works without an account or sign-up. Your routes, notes, photos and statistics are stored on your iPhone and in your iCloud, and we never receive them.
This policy explains what information the Arpente app for iPhone handles, and why. Arpente is made by Wibeset, in Canada.
Your location
A route is a map of where you live and where you walk, so we treat it as the most personal thing in the app. Arpente asks for access to your location to draw your route while you record an exploration. It uses your location only during a recording, and while it records with the screen off, iOS shows that Arpente is using your location.
Your location is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can change Arpente’s location access at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services.
What stays with you
Everything you record in Arpente is stored on your device:
- your routes, with their GPS points, distance, duration and elevation;
- the names, places, notes and photos you add to your explorations;
- your statistics and your map of explored places;
- your settings, such as your units.
If iCloud is turned on for Arpente, this data is also synced with your private iCloud account, so you can find it on another iPhone. Apple keeps it under its own terms; we can’t access it. We have no server that keeps your data, and we can’t see it.
Maps
Maps are provided by Apple Maps. To show the map around a route, your iPhone requests map images for that area from Apple, as any map app does. Apple handles these requests under its own privacy policy and doesn’t receive your journal.
Photos
When you add a photo to an exploration, Arpente only sees the photos you pick or take. They’re kept with your journal, on your iPhone and in your iCloud, and never sent to us.
Exports and sharing
You can export a route as a GPX file or share an exploration as an image. This only happens when you ask, and the file or image only goes where you choose to save or send it. A GPX file contains the exact points of your route: think twice before sharing one that starts or ends at your home.
Usage statistics and crash reports
Arpente includes no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tools. If you chose, in your iPhone’s settings, to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, which help us fix bugs. They don’t identify you and don’t include your routes. You can change this in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
What we don’t do
- We don’t ask for your name, your email address or an account.
- We don’t show ads or track you across other apps or websites.
- We don’t have public profiles, feeds or leaderboards.
- We don’t sell or share your information, including your location.
Deleting your data
Since your data is on your iPhone and in your iCloud, you stay in control. You can delete an exploration in the app. Deleting Arpente erases its data from your device; to erase the iCloud copy too, go to Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage. Earlier backups may still contain it until they’re replaced or deleted.
Children
Arpente collects no personal information, including from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Arpente handles information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
